What Are Some Common Eczema Causes?

The medical community has not actually pinned down the exact cause of eczema, but they have found some things that can be a contributor to the condition of eczema. Lets take a look at some of these common eczema causes.

Some common triggers for an outbreak of eczema are excessive rubbing of the skin, moisture, overheating, house dust, scratchy fabrics, animal dander, cigarette smoke, harsh laundry detergents, harsh body soaps and water. Wow, it seems like everything can contribute to an outbreak of eczema even water. It is becoming more and more apparent that some people are more sensitive to these items and will develop eczema. This leads many doctors to believe that eczema is an allergic reaction.

There have been some food items that have been linked to eczema. In babies, if a nursing mom is consuming dairy products, nuts, eggs and seafood the baby might be affected during nursing. There are some foods that have been shown to effect eczema in children who have this condition. You should eliminate egg whites, cows milk, citrus, nuts and chocolate from your child's diet and see if it impacts the eczema.

If your baby has eczema you can try to avoid certain conditions and see if the eczema improves. Don't put your baby in situations that will make them sweat. It is the natural inclination of a new mom to wrap their baby up in four hundred blankets to keep them warm, but this is not a good situation for a baby. You don't want babies to become overheated and exacerbate their eczema.

Eliminate the food items like cow's milk, citrus fruits, eggs and anything containing peanuts from your child's diet and see if there is a noticeable improvement. You can also make sure that the laundry detergent you are using is made especially for sensitive skin. There are many free and clear products on the market for this purpose. These products do not contain the perfumes and dyes that other laundry soaps have and can be better for very sensitive skin. And keep away from irritating fabrics like wool. That means don't dress the baby in wool and don't dress yourself in wool. Your child spends a lot of time in your arms and your clothes can affect them as well.

While there may never be a definitive answer on eczema causes, you can do your best to pinpoint what things may have a contributing factor. Through careful watching and testing you may find some things that can be easily changed and help your eczema a great deal.
